Tax payers will reward former speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga with billions in retirement benefits, just like they have done for her predecessors.

On May 24, Kadaga lost her third term speaker bid to her hitherto deputy Jacob Oulanyah.

But Kadaga will benefit from provisions of the Parliamentary Pensions (Amendment) (No.2) Act 2011 which provide former speakers and deputy speakers of Parliament with retirement packages.

Kadaga will now be getting a pension amount equivalent to 60 per cent of what Oulanyah will be earning as speaker.

She will also receive a Shs1.7bn package for her service to Parliament.

This is equivalent to the total amount a speaker earns as salary in just two years.

Kadaga served for two terms as speaker (Ninth and 10th Parliaments) and will will therefore get a two years’ salary amount, a year for each term.

Other benefits include a four-wheel chauffer driven car (3500-4000cc), replaceable every five years until her death.

for her personal transport. This will be replaced once every after five years for life.

Tax payers will also hire two security guards, two domestic servants, and pay for Kadaga’s medical care.

She will also get a Shs660,000 monthly allowance to pay for water and electricity.
