A journalist working for Buganda Kingdom’s BBS TV has been kidnapped by armed men in plain clothes, the station and its staff say.

The journalist is said to have been kidnapped andd bundled into a car as he left his workplace at Masengere, Mengo in the Ugandan capital Kampala on the evening of Tuesday, September 15, 2022.

The kidnapped journalist has been identified as Keneth Kavulu. He was the presenter of the show known as Omugotekko.

Kavulu’s colleagues and the station he works for say he was bundled in a Mark II registration number UAG 024G.

They say they have not been able to locate Kavulu many hours since he was picked up by the armed men.

“Mark II UAG 024G had armed civilians who bundled up our colleague Keneth Kavulu and abducted him while leaving his workplace, Masengere- Mengo Tuesday evening. The company has since engaged different security officials in vain,” wrote Kavulu’s colleague Culton Scovia Nakamya.

Faridah Nakayiza, another colleague of the abducted journalist, said: “Kenneth Kavulu our colleague and presenter at BBS TV was abducted on Tuesday outside Masengere gate as he was leaving work. Eye witness say that he was taken by plain clothed armed men in a Mark II. Our efforts for his whereabouts have yielded no fruits yet.”

Opposition politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine said  Kavulu had been abducted at about 4pm.

We have learnt of another abduction on Tuesday 4:00pm, of a journalist called Kavulu Kenneth who works with BBS TV. Gun-wielding men violently forced him into a Mark II vehicle and drove him away at breakneck speed. Right outside Masengere. No body knows where he is,” said Bobi Wine.

“The regime is at it again, abducting people every day with no shame whatsoever. Like we always say, there can be no peace unless and until Gen. Museveni and his criminal regime are out. No one is safe under this environment.”

Abductions, kidnappings and disappearances have been on the increase in recent years. Most of them are said to be politically motivated.

Weeks ago, a pro-Bobi Wine supporter disappeared after she reportedly shared a TikTok video celebrating the death of former security minister Gen Elly Tumwine. (Read Story Here).
