Azimio La Umoja deputy presidential running mate Martha Karua has told a gathering of newly elected leaders under the coalition that Raila Amollo Odinga won the Tuesday, August 09 presidential election.

Addressing the Azimio newly elected leaders familiarization meeting at KICC, Karua said the coalition had conducted its own tally, showing that Raila had won but the party could not usurp the powers of Wafula Chebukati’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to announce the politician from Bondo as president-elect.

Karua also claimed that with Azimio posting good performance in the parliamentary and gubernatorial seats, there was no way the tally being conducted at the Bomas could indicate that Raila lost.

“There’s no way the tally can be against us. The forms were on the IEBC portal, we took copies and we tallied. We know where we are. If we had the power, by now, we would have called it for ourselves but we will wait for that announcement,” said Karua.

Speaking before Karua, former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, the man who could become Prime Minister if Raila wins, equally sounded confident of victory.

“A very hearty congratulations to all who have done this county and our coalition so proud, and stood firm for Baba the 5th The country was getting nervous but now Kenyans can see the true leadership,” said Kalonzo.

“We have majority of Governors and Members of Parliament and that’s a fact; we are confident that we will win and justice will be served.”

Meanwhile, the IEBC has announced the disappearance of its election returning officer. (Read Story Here).
