Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga and his running mate Martha Wangari Karua are not attending the inauguration of William Samoei Ruto as the fifth president of the Republic of Kenya.

Ruto and his running mate Rigathi Gachagua of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Kenya Kwanza defeated Odinga and Karua in the August 09 presidential election.

Odinga and Karua challenged the declaration of Ruto as Kenya’s president-elect as made by Wafula Chebukati’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEBC). But Odinga and Karua lost at the Supreme Court of Kenya.

Although Ruto invited Odinga and Karua to attend his inauguration ceremony at Kasarani, the Azimio La Umoja have not attended.

Odinga is out of the country, having flown out of Kenya ahead of Ruto’s big day.

Hours ago, Odinga explained why he would not have attended Ruto’s swearing-in ceremony even if he were in Kenya on Tuesday.

Karua shared a photo of herself playing golf, instead of honoring Ruto’s invitation to attending the swearing-in ceremony of Kenya’s fifth president.

Meanwhile, several heads of state are already Kasarani for the inaguration ceremony of Ruto and Gachagua.

Outgoing president Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to hand over instruments of power and office to Ruto.

The incoming president and his deputy will also take oath of office, which will be administered by Chief Justice Martha Koome, also the President of the Supreme Court that upheld Ruto’s election.
