National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has described results from the Kayunga LCV byelection as ‘broad day robbery.’

In what might have shocked NUP candidate Harriet Kafeero Nakwedde, the Electoral Commission (EC) declared ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Andrew Muwonge the winner of the election. (See full results here).

Earlier NUP had claimed that Nakwedde had won.

Commenting on the election results, NUP president Bobi Wine accused NRM Chairman President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni (who appoints members of the Electoral Commission – EC) of “robbing the victory of the people.”

Bobi Wine further claimed that according to what NUP agents had compiled, Nakwedde had beaten Muwonge by a margin of over 15,000 votes.

“In broad day light, Museveni robs the victory of the people, and declares his candidate in Kayunga!” said Bobi Wine,

“Despite the stuffing and all manner of rigging, the signed DR [Declaration of Results] forms give us a 15,000 votes lead.”

On what he and NUP will do next, Bobi Wine said: “Ugandans will have to decide the next course of action.”
