Odrek Disciples, a group promoting the alleged 2026 presidential bid of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s son-in-law Rwabwogo, have spoken out on the source of their funding.
On September 22, 2021, The Odrek Disciples launched their campaign to promote the candidature of Rwabwogo, saying he was the right person to succeed Museveni, 77, who will have ruled Uganda for four decades in 2026.
But Museveni is yet to announce retirement from presidential politics.
Also, some prominent people in the corridors of power seem to point to first son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the favorite successor to the ‘Museveni throne.’
So, who is behind Odrek Disciples and their project?
According to Yosia Mugaaju, the coordinator of The Odrek Disciples, Rwabwogo doesn’t fund them yet.
“The first popular question [since we launched the Odrek Project Popularization campaign] is, who is funding us?” noted Mugaaju.
“Our answer is that we are funded by our interest in the plight of our nation in the context of socio-economic and political transformation.”
Mugaaju added that they are not looking for money but interested in the transition from Museveni to a new leader who will take the country forward.
“We categorically indicate that nobody needs to fund us for the cause that we uphold as citizens of this country,” claimed Mugaaju.
“We are adult Ugandans who have associated with our politics for a considerable length of time. We live with unresolved question of the post-Museveni Uganda.”
