National Unity Platform (NUP) has blasted a group of party members that recently ‘overthrew’ Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and replaced him with Moses Kibalama Nkonge.
In a statement issued by the party a day after Kyagulanyi’s ‘ouster,’ NUP described the Kibalama gang as “crooks” who should not be given attention.
“The National Unity Platform has noted several social media posts containing messages from crooks claiming to hold different positions within the Party,” read the Kamwokya-based party’s statement in part.
“The Party and its leadership urges its members and supporters to ignore them, and to treat with contempt all diversionary attempts.”
In the same statement, NUP punched holes in the delegates conference and the decisions thereof.
“For clarity, there has been no Delegates Conference of the Party in the recent past. According to our Constitution, a Delegates conference sits at least once every five years to elect leaders, and once elected, those leaders hold office for five years,” the party further noted.
“There is no need whatsoever for any of our members to be worried about any new schemes by any crooks regarding the leadership of the Party.”
On May 27, Kibalama and his group ‘fired’ Bobi Wine, Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi and other party leaders for alleged competence. (Read Story Here).
This is not the first time Kibalama is seeking to snatch his former party from Bobi Wine, a pop star who came second in last year’s presidential election, losing to President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni.
In September 2020, Kibalama sought to overthrow Bobi Wine from the NUP presidency over reports that he had failed to pay him Shs18bn, the ‘selling price’ for the party. (Read Story Here).
