You’re not untouchable: Museveni tells Bobi Wine, warns opposition protesters

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has told Ugandans National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and other opposition politicians are not untouchable.

In his first comprehensive address on the Free Bobi Wine protests that claimed 54 lives, Museveni noted that protesters of the Kyadondo East MP should always remember that the singer-turned-politician is not above the law.

Protests broke out on November 18 after police arrested Bobi Wine in Luuka District for flouting Covid19 regulations.

Police and the military battled protesters who had blocked roads and started attacking people thought to be members of Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Museveni threatened tough action against those targeting NRM supporters.

“The attack on people wearing NRM/ yellow shirts; the attack on officers in uniform should NEVER happen again. Whoever has ears should listen,” Museveni said.

“You are not doing anyone a favor to keep the law.”

Bobi Wine would later be released on bail, but with caution to desist from holding meetings of more than 200 people as guided by Ministry of Health (MoH).

Museveni also argued that the presidential candidate’s supporters should have turned to court for justice instead of protests.

He warned against a repeat of protests over Bobi Wine.

“If Hon Kyagulanyi (Robert) was arrested, his supporters should have waited for him to go to court like he eventually did,” noted the president.

“The feeling that Kyagulanyi is untouchable because he is a politician and prompts people to riot must NEVER be repeated.”
