WHY DO MUSEVENI GENERALS END UP LIKE THIS? Bobi Wine’s Reaction to News of Gen Elly Tumwine’s Death Raises Questions

Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has wondered why all revolutionaries from President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s National Resistance Army (NRA) are ending up badly and more hated than they came.

Gen Tumwine was pronounced dead this Thursday, August 25 morning after days of hospitalization at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.

When the news of the general’s demise first broke, Bobi Wine simply delivered the following ‘Rest in Peace’ message: “Genesis 3:19 “… For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”

But about eight hours later, he returned with another response that raised more questions on what Bobi Wine and other Ugandans thought about Gen Tumwine.

He revealed that his mind was troubled about how the revolutionaries, including Museveni’s generals, who had ascended to power being praised by Ugandans have largely ended up very much hated by those who welcomed him in 1986.

“The most pressing question on my mind today: HOW & WHY did prized revolutionaries do this to themselves? Men who were received in Kampala with ululations of joy to go down with such hatred from so many citizens?” wondered Kyagulanyi.

Tumwine is the man credited for firing first shot that started off the NRA war during the attack on Kabamba Military Barracks. During the war that ensued, Gen Tumwine sustained facial injuries and lost sight in one of his eyes.

Following his death, some people celebrated, saying he had been part of the system that has oppressed Ugandans for long. In the buildup to the 2021 general elections, Gen Tumwine shocked Ugandans when he said that security officers had a right to shoot at protesters if they went overboard.

Before, during and after the elections, a number of people were kidnapped in ‘drone’ vehicles, according to Ugandan opposition and human rights activists.

Bobi Wine now wants Ugandans to learn lessons from Museveni’s generals who appear to have been received well over three decades ago but are ending up very much hated by the people who once praised them.

“The Latin say, ‘Mortui Vivos Docent.’ Let the dead teach the living,” advised Bobi Wine.

Meanwhile, before he died, Gen Elly Tumwine had sent a very clear warning and message to President Museveni. (Read that message Here).
