The health condition and whereabouts of speaker of Parliament Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah has continued to raise questions.
Speaker Oulanyah’s absence from Parliament sparked off speculation that he was critically ill.
Parliament quickly dismissed the reports of the speaker’s sickness, instead concentrating on justifying his absence.
That the office of the speaker was running Parliamentary business with a new approach where Oulanyah and his deputy Anita Among would take turns chairing plenary.
Parliament alsp claimed Oulanyah was well and taking rest after an intense campaign year.
The institution also said the head of the legislative arm of government was working from home.
Yet reports of Oulanyah’s critical health condition persisted.
Available news reports claim Oulanyah flew to Nairobi on Wednesday.
That he was also expected to continue to the UK for specialized treatment.
Other reports claimed Oulanyah had stomach complications while other said he was down with Covid19 – and on life support.
It remained unclear if indeed Oulanyah had flown out of Uganda.
While some claim he was already admitted in a hospital in Nairobi, others alleged he was in a UK hospital.
Sources from his office are also being quoted as saying the speaker was in the UK on a family trip he had arranged months earlier.
A section of Ugandans is demanding that Oulanyah comes out in a video and clears the air on his health condition.
Until such clarity comes from the speaker or from Parliament, speculation seems to be continuing.
