Prof Kithure Kindiki aka Abra K has been sworn in as Kenya’s third vice president under the 2010 constitution. Prof Kindiki was in company of his wife Dr Joyce Kindiki at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) where he took oath.
Prof Kithure Kindiki takes over from Rigathi Gachagua who was impeached last month. He has been the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration.
“I, Kithure Kindiki, do swear that I will always truly and diligently serve the people of Kenya and the Republic of Kenya in the office of the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, that I will diligently discharge my duties and perform my functions in the said office to the best of my judgment, that I will at all times when so required faithfully and truly give my council and advise to the President of the Republic of Kenya, that I will do justice to all without fear, favour, affection or ill will and that I will not directly or indirectly reveal such matters as shall come to my knowledge in the discharge of my dyes and committed to my secrecy, so help me God,” Kindiki swore.
In his remarks, here are the key highlights of Prof Kithure Kindiki aka Abra K speech: Words fail me to explain how grateful I am today. I will say that I am grateful to Almighty God who orders the steps and affairs of every human being on earth. I am grateful to you sir for the honour your have given me to serve under you.
I have come to believe that Kenya is the country of possibility…For a person such as I to stand here today and take oath of the Office of Deputy President, it can only happen in Kenya.
Whatever has happened in the last few weeks, and in the recent past, is a testament to the maturity of our democracy and a testament that our institutions work. I have been your [Ruto’s] political student for nearly 20 years now and nothing in the political space has helped me to pick up lessons more than the years that I have walked and served around you in various capacities…
I promise you, before this congregation and before God that I will not let you down for the privilege you have given me.
Allow me to thank my wonderful wife, Joyce Kithure. A woman that has sacrificed her profession, in her own right, to raise our three children; Imani, Neema and Mwende. I am very grateful to my wife and the children for being the foundation and providing the support that I have always required as I navigate this difficult space of public service.

Professor, my young brother. Let me call you Abra K. Welcome to the service of this great nation, Kenya. You said that you’ll serve the people of Kenya and the Republic of Kenya, Abra K please serve the people of Kenya and the Republic of Kenya. We are not here to serve ourselves, our families, our communities, our regions or our villages.
We are here to serve the Republic of Kenya and the people of Kenya. My brother Abra K, serve without bias, ill-will, favour, affection and fear so that, together, the people of Kenya can know that we have one nation, one country, one people and we’re called upon by the Constitution of Kenya to serve them without bias, fear, or favour.
Professor Kindiki, I need your voice. I need your intellect… I have almost become a lonely voice in the executive; especially in the presidency…I am confident that you will do that which I have missed for the last two years.
