Former ethics and integrity minister Fr Simon Lokodo has passed on this January 29 morning.
According to Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC), where he served as a commissioner, Lokodo died in Geneva, Switzerland. (Read story here).
In Geneva, Fr Lokodo was representing Mariam Wangadya, the UHRC Chairperson during the Universal Periodic Review working group that is currently reviewing Uganda’s human rights record.
UHRC did not reveal the cause of Lokodo’s death nor details of the circumstances leading to his demise.
But some reports indicate that the defrocked priest had collapsed on his way to an intensive care unit (ICU) in Geneva.
The same reports, which this publication couldn’t independently verify, further claimed that the ex-minister had succumbed to Covid19.
It is also understood that Lokodo previously suffered from stroke and hypertension.
In 2018, he was airlifted from the island district of Kalangala to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment after suffering health complications, including a stroke and high blood pressure.
Government is expected to issue an official statement on the cause of death of the UHRC commissioner and ex-minister.
