There was drama in Parliament on September 02 as Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja told off Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda to tell her what he exactly wants from her.
Ssemujju Nganda, of the FDC, had asked why Nabbanja, the Kakumiro District Woman MP, had seemingly handed over her responsibilities to Ruhinda North MP and Government Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa.
“The leader of government business is supposed to be here leading government business but she only slops in towards 4pm to answer questions, leaving the former FDC Youth leader-turned Chief Whip Tayebwa [to do her work],” submitted Ssemujju.
“The procedure issue I am raising is whether the Prime Minister must not be coming to parliament here to lead her team [instead of abandoning] her work to Hon Tayebwa whose job is described in the rules of procedure as mobilizing MPs to attend.”
When she rose to defend herself, Nabbanja demanded to know why Ssemujju Nganda had made it a habit to attack her.
“Rt Hon Speaker, I feel I should talk, when I was appointed Prime Minister, Ssemujju Nganda went on TV and claimed that I cannot even manage a garbage company. I want to ask him in front of everybody, what is it that you want from me?”
Ssemujju Nganda responded, making it clear he only wanted Nabbanja to execute her duties.
“If the PM is focused on answering, I would not be standing here on order, but for her to suggest in the broad daylight that there is something I want from her [is uncalled for],” said the FDC spokesperson.
It was deputy speaker Anita Annet Among who put an end to the drama and urged legislators not to turn the House into a market.
