WE’RE NOT WHEELBARROWS! Bobi Wine Speaks on Talks With Museveni; Defends LoP Mathias Mpuuga, Tells Museveni ‘You Were Conned’

National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has spoken out reports of talks and dialogue with President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government.

In recent days, especially following the release of NUP MPs Allan Ssewanyana of Makindye West and Muhammad Ssegirinya of Kawempe North, there have been reports that there were talks between senior NUP leaders and government.

But Bobi Wine has used the occasion of the Kunga Uganda Convention in Kampala on February 23, 2023, to announce the main opposition party’s position on talks and dialogue with Museveni’s government. The singer and politician also warned his party leaders against fighting for positions.

“We shall not be part of any dialogues with Museveni because all that Museveni wants is to use us like wheelbarrows and we are not wheelbarrows,” said Bobi Wine.

“Friends, we must not be seen as people that are in a fight for potions of leadership. We must be seen to fight for a bigger cause.”

He also defended Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LoP) Mathias Mpuuga, saying that allegations against the Nyendo-Mukungwe MP were unfounded and would be treated as propaganda until incriminating evidence has been adduced against the NUP leader.

I have spoken to the Leader of Opposition, Hon Mathias Mpuuga, about the allegations and he has trashed them. Until concrete evidence for the same is provided, we shall still consider that as regime propaganda,” continued Bobi Wine.

If you have evidence that one of our leaders or comrades is working for the enemy, please bring it to us the leaders.”

He also had a message for Museveni, telling him that he could have been conned by people who claimed they were negotiating on behalf of NUP.

“Our two MPs and hundreds of other political prisoners are innocent. They were illegally detained. If anyone took part in any talks with Museveni, it was not of our knowledge or endorsement. If promises were made those are fake promises,” he noted.

“To you Mr. Museveni, if anybody spoke to you claiming to represent NUP, you were conned.”

It should be remembered that Daily Monitor recently apologized to LoP Mpuuga over a story in which the publication claimed that the NUP boss had held talks with Museveni’s representative. (See Details Here).

In early 2022, this publication reported on a confession by Bobi Wine’s deputy to the effect that a Museveni agent promised her billions of money if she accepted to betray the NUP Principal. (Read Story Here).
