Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Uganda (CoU) has reiterated the need for a national dialogue.

Archbishop Kaziimba made the remarks during the national funeral service for Jacob Oulanyah, the late former speaker of the 11th Parliament.

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni is the chief mourner at the event being held at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala.

Also in attendance is Justin Muturi, the speaker of the Kenya National Assembly, and Dr Tulia Ackson, the speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania.

In his sermon during the service, Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized the need for dialogue to resolve a number of issues.

“There is need for a national dialogue. This is when people of different ideologies sit, talk and not fight. We meet and say, ‘what is the problem of Karamoja? Why are people fighting each other?’ Let us set aside political and tribal differences,” preached Kaziimba.

He also warned against vices such as land grabbing, and urged mutual respect.

“Many of you are fighting and grabbing land but that land will say, ‘take a little bit’. You will be buried in a very small bit of that land. Whatever we do here, we are in transit, we shall reach our final destination,” said the man of God.

“Let us utilize our transit by respecting each other as human beings. People forget that they will die. All of us are potential candidates of death but we die slowly. Citizens of heaven must promote heaven’s interest on earth.”
