Senior presidential press secretary Don Wanyama had advised NBS presenter Mildred Tuhaise to be more careful after pro-Bobi Wine Facebook pages and accounts targeted her over election day reporting.

National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine lost the January 14 election to incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni.

Official Electoral Commission (EC) results indicate that Museveni polled 58 per cent of just over 10 million votes cast while Bobi Wine managed 35 per cent.

But Bobi Wine won in many districts in his home region of central Uganda, including in the capital Kampala.

Almost two weeks since the elections were held, Bobi Wine wrote a protest letter to Next Media Services CEO Job Kariisa, accusing the media group of using it’s NBS TV to help the Museveni administration rig elections.

The protest letter has now emboldened pro-Bobi Wine Facebook pages and accounts to attack the station’s staff and management online.

For example, one such page called for the jailing of Mildred Tuhaise, one of the NBS TV election day hosts.

The same page also published images of Kariisa’s family, labelling the CEO a mafia gang agent.

Now Wanyama has advised that Tuhaise and other become extra careful since they could be targeted by NUP supporters for simply doing their work.

“And the campaign against NBS journalists has begun, I hope there won’t be calls to harm them. Waiting to see how other media houses take this. Mildred SSegujja Tuhaise Amooti watch your back!” said Wanyama.
