Uganda’s Parliament and opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have disagreed sharply on the burial program for Dokolo District Woman MP Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal.

Hours after the news of Cecilia Ogwal’s death broke, her party, the FDC, released a burial program, without specific dates.

According to FDC’s tentative funeral programme for Cecilia Ogwal, mourners will be gathering at the late Ogwal’s home in Bugolobi, Kampala; Adok in Dokolo District; in Lira City and Alito in Kole District awaiting arrival of the body.

On Day One, Cecilia Ogwal’s body will arrive at Entebbe International Airport and depart for Mulago Hospital and thereafter A-Plus Funeral home.

On Day Two, Cecilia Ogwal’s body will from A-Plus Funeral home to All Saints Cathedral for a funeral service and thereafter be transported to her home in Bugolobi for a vigil.

On Day Three, Cecilia Ogwal’s body will depart from Bugolobi to Parliament for a special sitting to pay tribute and thereafter to A-Plus Funeral home.

On Day Four, Cecilia Ogwal’s body will depart from her residence in Bugolobi to Dokolo via Soroti for a Joint Council Meeting at Dokolo District Local Council and thereafter a vigil will happen at Adok in Dokolo.

On Day Five, the body will depart Adok for Lira City for a church service at St Augustine Church and thereafter night vigil at Senior Quarters.

On Day Six, the body will depart  Lira City for Alito, Kole. A service will be held to receive the body and vigil will take place at the family home at Alito, Kole.

On Day Seven, Cecilia Ogwal will be laid to rest at Alito in Kole.

“This program is subject to amendments, and dates will be confirmed once more details on the repatriation of the body are provided,” the FDC concluded its tentative program for Cecilia Ogwal’s burial.

Parliament has reacted to the tentative program for the burial of Cecilia Ogwal as released by the FDC party, telling Ugandans to ignore it.

The legislature also warned the opposition party against vulgarizing Cecilia Ogwal’s final sendoff.

“The burial of the late Hon. Cecilia Ogwal is the responsibility of Parliament not the FDC. Please disregard the purported burial programme released by the FDC on it’s social media platforms,” said Parliament in a short statement.

“The Speaker of Parliament together with the family, will release the funeral arrangements.

We urge the FDC to observe the bare minimum of respect and decency and not vulgarise the final journey of the hugely respected Hon. Ogwal.”
