WAFULA CHEBUKATI ‘STOLE’ THE ELECTION: Four IEBC Commissioners Expose Their Boss

Four commissioners of Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) have distanced themselves from the final results of the country’s presidential election.

Gathered at the Serena Hotel, the commissioners, led by IEBC deputy chairperson Juliana Cherera, told reporters that they were concerned about “the opaque nature of the final phase.”

“We cannot take ownership of the results that will be announced because of the opaque nature of how the last phase has been handled,” said Cherera.

Beside the final phase, Cherera said the process had met the standards.

“We have conducted the 2022 general election and we have ensured that we have improved the standards and we have ensured that we have consistently communicated what is happening,” she noted.

Cherera said she and three others did not want to be associated with the announcement that IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati was expected to make at the Bomas of Kenya.

The presser by Cherera left Chebukati with two other commissioners.

Meanwhile, as Cherera and her team — including commissioners Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyang’aya and Irene Masit — were delivering their statement at the Serena Hotel, chaos broke out at the Bomas of Kenya where Chebukati later made the final announcement.

The announcement by the IEBC means that Raila Odinga is fifth time unlucky. (Read Story Here).
