A senior minister in President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government has survived being punched by an activist said to belong to main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party during a symposium organized by the Obwa Kyabazinga bwa Busoga (Busoga Kingdom) in Canada.
A few days ago, the minister, other government officials and Busoga King Kyabazinga William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV flew to Canada to attend the Busoga Innovation Symposium 2022.
As part of the symposium, Milly Babirye Babalanda, the Minister in Charge of the Presidency, and the Kyabazinga held a meeting with representatives of the AgaKhan at Uganda’s High Commission in Ottawa.
Minister Babalanda said the discussions in Cananda centred on how to, among other things, “alleviate Busoga from poverty through available opportunities.”
Minister Babalanda would also give an address to the Basoga Community in Canada. In her remarks, she reminded the people of Busoga “to use the prevailing peace and opportunities available in Uganda to develop their land of origin, in areas of agriculture, industry, services, tourism and ICT.”
But during the address, a man said to be a NUP activist named William Ntege aka Kyuma Kya Yesu, is seen rushing to the podium and grabbing Minister Babalanda’s speech.
Kyuma kya Yesu is said to have previously been a guard under NUP and People Power leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s security detail. He was reportedly among those that were thrown into Kitalya Prison over NUP’s and People Power activities.
The same Kyuma kya Yesu also reportedly worked as a presenter and reporter for WBS TV (no longer in operation) as well as Kingdom TV and Kingdom Radio, whose owner is ‘Bishop’ David Livingstone Kiganda of Christianity Focus Centre in Mengo-Kisenyi in the capital Kampala.
Kyuma kya Yesu now lives abroad and had come to attend the Busoga Kingdom Symposium. But there was shock when he grabbed the minister’s speech.
“Most of us have come to Canada not because we are well off but because our leaders, our ministers are telling lies to our people,” Kyuma kya Yesu said, marching to Minister Babalanda and grabbing her speech, before he was intercepted by participants, some of them being members of Babalanda’s security detail.
Kyuma kya Yesu then knelt, protested being dragged out, saying Canada was not Uganda where he would be thrown out like a chicken thief. In fact, some voices are heard telling those trying to kick out out Kyuma kya Yesu to be humane and not to handle the NUP activist like a chicken thief.
“Stop telling lies to the people, stop telling lies to His Royal Highness [the Kyabazinga]. Your Royal Highness, I am in pain,” said Kyuma Kya Yesu.
“We are suffering. Don’t touch me, I am talking to the Royal Highness. I am an invited guest. Leave me alone.”
The event then went for a music break as the issue of Kyuma kya Yesu’s dramatic interference was being handled.

This is not the first time that a Museveni minister is surviving being punched by Kyuma kya Yesu-like NUP activists. A few months ago, Energy and Mineral Development Minister Ruth Nankabairwa was ‘ambushed’ by Bobi Wine activists in Canada. (Read Story and Watch Video Here).
