Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son to Ugandan president Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, has been decorated as a general of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), the country’s national army.
Aged just 48, Gen Muhoozi is one of the country’s youngest generals and one of the few generals in the UPDF. The rank of general is the highest in the Ugandan army.
Muhoozi was elevated to this coveted rank last week in an announcement made by his father Museveni, the 78 year old president who has ruled Uganda for nearly four decades, a man who has reigned since his National Resistance Army (NRA) bush war catapulted him to power in 1986.
Before he was promoted to full general last week, Muhoozi was dropped as the Commander of UPDF Land Forces and replaced with hitherto Maj Gen Kayanja Muhanga who has since been promoted to the rank of lieutenant general (Lt Gen).
The elevation in rank and the ‘firing’ from the Commander of Land Forces position followed a meeting Museveni had with his son after he sent out careless tweets on his army capacity to capture the Kenyan capital Nairobi, whipping up a storm with Kenyans who took his tweets seriously.
The Ugandan Foreign Affairs Ministry has since clarified on the tweets, telling the Kenyan government to ignore Muhoozi’s tweets.
It should be remembered that Museveni has issued an apology on behalf of his son Muhoozi over his careless tweets. (Read Story Here).
So, following his promotion, Muhoozi has today been decorated at a pipping ceremony held at the UPDF headquarters in Bombo.
Gen Muhoozi was decorated by his uncle (Museveni’s younger brother) Gen Caleb Akandwanaho aka Salim Saleh; and the first son’s wife Charlotte Nankunda Kainerugaba, daughter to former foreign affairs minister Sam Kahamba Kutesa.

Muhoozi was accompanied to Bombo by youths who say they support his bid to replace his father Gen Museveni as president of the Republic of Uganda.
Muhoozi recently made a shocking revelation on a plan to replace his father Gen Museveni in 2026. (Read Story Here).
