There was drama and shock in Mityana as Francis Zaake Butebi, the National Unity Platform (NUP) Member of Parliament representing the people of Mityana Municipality, reportedly rejected and threw away Shs10m that Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among had contributed to his wedding.
MP Zaake wedded his long-time lover Bridget Namirembe.
Zaake and Bridget exchanged their vows at Mityana Cathedral Parish Kiyinda, as the youthful pro-Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) MP affirmed his love for his girlfriend of a number of years.
Zaake and Bridget have two children together. The struggle for Zaake’s wedding began when he proposed to Bridget at Masheda Palms Resort in Buyala, Mityana Road in April 2022.
The youthful controversial MP would on June 12 register his wedding at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine, Mityana Cathedral Parish in Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese.
At the end of last month, Bridget introduced Zaake to her family in Gomba.
Zaake’s wedding reception was attended by several opposition politicians.
Speaker Anita Among, the Bukedea District Woman MP, did not come for the wedding but sent some money through Wilfred Nuwagaba, the Ndorwa East MP.
But Zaake threw away the envelope, which we have since learnt contained Shs10m.
It appears the NUP MP did not want to pick the money from Among, an NRM member.
It should be remembered that Zaake and Speaker Among were previously involved in a war of words, with Zaake ‘losing’ his job as parliamentary commissioner for disrespecting the speaker through his social media posts. (Read Story Here).
Zaake and Speaker Among were later seen hugging and smiling together, making some believe that they had reconciled. (Read Story Here).
