VIDEO: Frail Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali ‘Collapses’ in Parliament

Second Deputy Prime Minister Gen Moses Ali has today ‘collapsed’ inside Parliament, raising more questions about the state of his health. 

Gen Moses Ali was struggling to exit Wednesday’s parliamentary session chaired by deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa (NRM – Ruhinda North) when he fell. Some of the legislators, who were quick to notice that the elderly MP and minister was about to fall, attempted to prevent him from falling but it was too late.

Watching the general and get helped to stand up before walking out, deputy speaker Tayebwa warned MPs to be careful with the steps.

Aged 82, Gen Moses Ali is the East Moyo MP. He won a five-year term in 2021 parliamentary elections and will be 86 years by 2026 when his constituents and other Ugandans will return to the polls to choose their representatives in parliament.

This was the first time Ali was had come to parliament in many weeks. When he came to Parliament today morning, he visited deputy speaker Tayebwa in his office.

“My senior comrade Gen Moses Ali came to see me and deliver his best wishes upon my recent upgrade in office. A very cultured man he is and indeed he gifted me a Nubian cultural mat which he said is a symbol of respect and insisted I use it for prayers. I am humbled,” said Tayebwa.

There has been concern over the health condition of Gen Ali, Uganda’s second deputy prime minister. While at Kololo Independence Grounds during the election of a speaker to replace the late Jacob Oulanyah, Gen Moses Ali was filmed looking ill and shifting in his chair.
