VIDEO: Fireworks as MPs, Local Leaders Shout at Minister Jim Muhwezi in Masaka

There was drama in Masaka as security minister Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi clashed with MPs on the committee of Defence and Internal Affairs and local leaders over investigations into Masaka killings.

Chaired by Sheema District Woman MP Rosemary Nyakikongoro, the committee is on a three-day fact-finding visit in Masaka on orders of the speaker’s office.

The clash started after Minister Muhwezi attempted to block the meeting between the Nyakikongoro committee and locals gathered at Kibinge Subcounty headquarters in Bukomansimbi District.

Muhwezi warned security officers who were attending the meeting called by the committee to desist from making revelations that could negatively impact the probe into Masaka killings.

“You are not obliged, you are not at liberty actually, to disclose any security information involving investigations with these criminal matters,” Muhwezi said.

“You may report but do not compromise the investigations.

Meanwhile, Minister Muhwezi has also told the Nyakikongoro Committee that terrorists are behind the Masaka killings.

“If people do acts of terror where they write intimidating messages and later kill people, it means they are terrorising the area hence being termed as terrorists,” he told the committee.

“We have identified them as some have been arrested whereas others have been tried in court.”
