National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is on the spot after a video of him assaulting the Kiira Regional Police Commander (RPC) Dauda Hiriga.
In the video, Bobi Wine is seen shouting at a police commander even after he had directed officers to allow Bobi Wine to continue with his campaign meeting.
“The world is watching you; you are the regional police commander. Mr Hiriga, the world should see your face,” Bobi Wine confronts Iriga.
As the RPC is still telling Bobi Wine “Honourable, they have opened the way for you, can we go,” the man who believes he is best suited to rule Uganda grabs a face mask off the police commander’s face, pulling it down so he can be seen for blocking the novice opposition politician’s rally.
Then a satisfied Bobi Wine, shouts ‘good.’
He then blurts in his native Luganda language, “Kabakulabe face! [Let them see your face].”
In all this confrontation, that ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) campaigners are terming ‘provocative,’ Bobi Wine and most of his supporters have no masks on.
The NRM government camp mobilisers have praised the RPC for exercising restraint amidst Bobi Wine’s provocation.
They argue that Bobi Wine wanted the RPC to cause chaos so the Kyadondo East MP, whom they believe has no message but is riding on violence, could make news headlines.
Bobi Wine has been on the spot for flouting Covid19 prevention guidelines.
His arrest on November 18 in Luuka District over his failure to observe standard operating procedures sparked off protests in which over 50 people were killed.
Pro-government activists say Bobi Wine would want more of these to convince his alleged foreign funders of his purported popularity, and start a street revolution to oust President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni.
The Musevenists are also accusing the media and civil society of failing to highlight Bobi Wine’s provocative behavior, but rather ‘making noise’ when police responds to the candidate’s acts of incitement.
“As usual, they were provoking Police for a news scene. This what they have done in all the places where violence has broken out,” noted Duncan Abigaba, who until recently worked as the deputy manager of the Government Citizen Interaction Centre (GCIC).
“Our not very useful media houses who are foreign funded to misinform the public and cause an insurrection will never report this. Also, the RPC should sue for reckless endangerment. He could get COVID from this reckless action.”
However, contrary to NRM social media mobisers’ claims that the incident captured in the video happened in Zombo, we have since established that the assault happened in Jinja where Hiriga is regional commander.
