Opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye says his home is being surrounded by security officers since he attempted to begin protests over rising commodity prices and the rumored Museveni-Muhoozi succession plot.
The former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and ex-presidential candidate has not been allowed to leave his home in Kasangati in Wakiso District since reports of his launch of protests similar to the 2011 walk-to-work demonstrations that shook President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government.
Reports are suggesting that security agencies have been directed not to allow Besigye and other opposition politicians to start protests over the skyrocketing prices of goods.
Besigye says a number of trucks have remained deployed at his home, and so are security officers.
“Eight police patrol vehicles have been stationed at and around my home since Thursday: two of them plus one sedan car being in front of the gate. Many police officers deployed all around. No visitors or media allowed in since,” he said on May 15.
Police also blocked Besigye’s visitors.
“Disappointed colleagues of the (PFT) Red Card Front, who had come to check on me at home, weren’t allowed anywhere near the home! They couldn’t get through the roadblock at the junction to our home. Even the food they brought for us had to go back! We shall, definitely, overcome,” complained Besigye.
It remains to be seen if Besigye will find a way of sneaking out of his home as he has previously done leaving police officers and other security operatives guarding his home shocked.
On Thursday, Besigye was arrested and returned home as he and others attempted to begin walk-to-work protests. Besigye has also called for the firing of all RDCs, saying they should all go home and grow cassava for the ‘Cassava Republic.’ (Read Story Here).
