A military police officer is on the spot after being filmed assaulting a traffic officer who told him to be patient and wait for his turn to be allowed to go as vehicles were stuck in jam in Kampala.
The incident happened near Mukwano Mall in Kampala. Trouble for the traffic officer started when he refused to obey orders by a military officer who directed him to clear the way for his vehicle to pass.
The military officer and his colleagues were driving in a green vehicle registration number D02DF08P. The traffic officer told the military officers to be patient like all other motorists.
Feeling disrespected by an officer junior to him, the military officer grabbed the traffic officer by the collar and dragged him for refusing to clear the way, and for telling him to be patient like the others who were stuck in traffic congestion.
In the heat of the assault, a military officer is said to have attempted to shoot at the traffic policeman. But the bullet reportedly missed the officer on duty. The stray bullet damaged a car registration number UAR 308L.
It remains to be seen if the officer and his colleagues will be arrested and prosecuting for disobeying lawful traffic orders and assaulting a police officer on duty.
The assault comes months ago since another traffic officer was shot by a military officer while on duty at Kira Road Division. The traffic officer’s leg has since been cut off. Internal Affairs Minister Maj Gen (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire refused to apologize on behalf of the officer, insisting he must carry his cross. (Read Stories Here and Here).
