Former presidential candidate and ex-prime minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi and his wife Jacqueline are attending President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s sixth term swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Mbabazi and his wife received a warm welcome from the over 4,000 guests attending the inauguration.
A former prime minister, Mbabazi is expected to return to cabinet or the the ruling NRM party after mending relations with Museveni.
Museveni sacked Mbabazi as prime minister in 2014, replacing him with Dr Ruhakana Rugunda.
Museveni also replaced Mbabazi with former Government Chief Whip Justine Kasule Lumumba as NRM Secretary General.
As Museveni puts final touches on his cabinet list, Museveni is expected to include Mbabazi.
Mbabazi is reportedly tipped for one of these three positions: Vice President (replacing Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi), Prime Minister (replacing Rugunda) or NRM Secretary General (replacing Justine Kasule Lumumba).
In the latter positions, Mbabazi would be returning to the positions he held before his sacking in 2014 and a subsequent short stint in political opposition, running against his boss as presidential candidate in 2016.
