USE YOUR BRAINS: Mpuuga Blasts His Enemies after Judge Okays Shs1.7bn Service Awards

Mathias Mpuuga, the former leader of opposition in parliament (LOP), commissioner of parliament and Nyendo-Mukungwe MP, has slammed his enemies after the High Court upheld the Shs1.7bn service awards to him and other commissioners. Mpuuga told those who have been criticizing them that they should have used their brains.

A petitioner named Daniel Bwete had filed an application for judicial review in a matter in which Mpuuga got Shs500m for his service as LOP while backbench commissioners Solomon Silwany, Prossy Akampurira and Esther Afoyochan each got Shs400m.

Justice Douglas Singiza Karekona has ruled that the decision to award the four cash awards in May 2022 had the approval of Parliament and was part of the budget for that financial year, hence meeting the requirements of the Public Finance Management Act.

Reacting to the ruling, Mpuuga blasted those who have been looking forward to censuring him for not failing to understand how parliament works. He said Singiza’s ruling vindicates him and proves that what he has all along been saying on the legality of the service award was nothing but the truth.

“The Court in its powers decided that some right thinking Ugandans and those who have been following the discussion that any MP that doesn’t understand the processes of Parliament is just a burden to taxpayers,” said Mpuuga.

“The Court’s ruling is what we said from the start that all these matters were handled legally. Individually, this issue has been capitalized on by many people to disrespect me, but I want to thank all Ugandans who stood with me.”

He then told his critics not to stop at using their mouths but also their brains and other parts God created them with.

“With the court ruling, I will be informing Ugandans my next step especially all the things that have been done by individuals that have been trying to soil my image and reputation by hiding other such issue and it is a pity that some of these individuals claim they are educated, but I will leave that to God,” he noted.

“Whatever the Court has given us, we shall move with that maybe, the people God gave heads that have mouths, ears, eyes and brains, the ruling of court could help them to know that they should never use their mouth alone, but they should use all the parts on their head.”

He also wondered that “all those people that have been backstabbing me… are going to tell the nation about me.” He vowed not to “waste my efforts on people that have been wasting my time,” adding that “they have harmed me for the past eight months focusing all their energy on me as an individual but that is how things are now, I will be informing the nation of my next step.”

When he held a thanksgiving mass weeks ago, Mpuuga said he was capable of leading Bobi Wine’s NUP and Uganda. Meanwhile, amidst campaigns like #TextTheThief, commissioner Akampurira came out and explained how she had used the service award she received. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
