Uganda’s government is yet receive am official notification from the US president Joe Biden administration for visa sanctions against leaders and security officers accused of ‘undermining democracy’ by reportedly interfering with the 2021 elections.
On April 16, US secretary of state Antony Blinken announced visa restrictions against Ugandans whose names he didn’t mention.
The restrictions were based on a report on human rights practices in Uganda.
Kampala has filed its response to the allegations of human rights violations.
However, government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo says the President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni administration is yet to receive formal notification of the visa ban.
“Government of Uganda hasn’t been formally notified.
“[Neither] US Mission in Uganda [nor] State Department [has] disclosed the identities of the officials or specific incidents or offences,” noted Opondo.
“It would be helpful if they so, assuming they have their facts right.”
