Main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has accused police and the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) of arresting and detaining incommunicado its two Masala chief polling agents and mobilizers: former boxing champion Justin Juuko and Garlypo Mayanja.
Several party officials claim Juuko and Mayanja were arrested in Kyazanga on December 12.
They were identifying and training FDC polling agents in Kyazanga be the time of their arrest.
Juuko had reportedly flown from the US for holidays and offered to volunteer in training polling agents.
As for Mayanja, the party recognises him as one of its mobilizers in Masaka sub-region, particularly in Lwengo.
He is also a friend of main opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye.
Besigye aide Ronald Muhinda says Mayanja has been on “Police and Military surveillance after President Kizza Besigye, enroute to Western Uganda, visited his home in April 2018 in Mbirizi to appreciate his unwavering commitment to the liberation struggle.”
Muhindal claims different security agencies have detained the duo at different places in the course of the one week they have been held.
“They were briefly held at Kyazanga Police Post, later transfered to Mbirizi Police Station from where they were handed to the military (CMI) that have kept moving them from one place to another,” says Muhinda.
“From Mbirizi, they were taken to Masaka, later Buwama and finally brought to Kampala where they are reportedly held at different sites incommunicado. Justin Juuko and Garlypo Mayanja haven’t received any welfare, legal and medical attention from Kireka and Makindye Military barracks where they are.”
