Uganda’s national army, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has released the list of recruitment centres and dates for interviews where applicants from each district are expected to show up for consideration.
The UPDF has begun on an exercise to hire regular recruits, medical personnel, drivers and mechanics, among other officers needed in the national army. A total of 10,000 people will be recruited in different categories.
The army says that the recruitment is part of a comprehensive program undertaken in 2004 to transform the national army into a modern, professional and accountable force subordinate to the civilian authority.
The army has prescribed standards, which those seeking to be recruited in the UPDF must meet in line with articles 51 and 52 of the UPDF Act 2005. The qualifying candidates are expected to be patriotic and ready to serve in the regular, professional and specialized units.”
