Uganda’s national army, the UPDF, has spoken out on reports that a car belonging to first son and commander Land Forces (CLF ) Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba was shot at in Munyonyo, Kampala.
The report was carried by a fabricated NBS Television Twitter account.
It claimed that Lt Gen Kainerugaba’s official car was shot at in Munyonyo.
“Unconfirmed reports coming in indicate that the new commander land forces Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s official car has been shot at in Munyonyo. Several motorists fatally wounded as shooters engaged his lead car security detail,” claimed the authors of the Twitter post.
But the UPDF flagged the post ‘FAKE.’
NBS Television also distanced itself from the post that some naive people had started sharing online.
“NOTICE: Please disregard this screenshot about Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba making rounds on social media. It wasn’t posted on any of our social media platforms,” said NBS in a statement.
Weeks ago, social media posters claimed Kainerugaba had been airlifted to Nairobi in critical condition.
But this claim turned out to be false.
