Opposition activist Dr Kizza Besigye has been arrested in Downtown Kampala after beating security at his home and in the Kasangati Area to travel to the city centre to hold protests against rising commodity prices and an alleged succession plan.
Besigye’s appearance in the city centre attracted crowds of people who cheered him on as the four-time presidential candidate used megaphones mounted on his car to rally Ugandans to protest the high cost of living and the alleged succession plan.
But soon, police surrounded his vehicle and later pulled him out. He was then driven away and is said to be detained at the Central Police Station in Kampala. He was later driven to Naggalama Police Station and charged with inciting violence.
Besigye, who appeared with former presidential candidate Samuel Lubega Mukaaku, launched his ‘Muzukuke’ campaign weeks ago. But police and other security agencies had been blocking him from leaving Kasangati.
