Kyatuhaire was in her third year. Hailing from Murisa Village in Ntungamo District, the student was renting in Kitookye Cell, Central Division, in the Ishaka Bushenyi Municipality. There was confusion on which university where Kyatuhaire was pursuing her studies.
While some reports had earlier claimed tat she was at Kyambogo University Bushenyi Branch or Learning Centre, other claimed that she was at the Valley University of Science and Technology (VUST).

The neighbors then reported the matter to the Bushenyi Police Station from where officers where detectives were sent to investigate the matter. It is not yet clear who killed her and why. But there are indications that she could have first been raped before her killers ended her life.
Detectives from Bushenyi Police Station teamed up with canines for tracking the criminals as well as scene of crime officers (Socos) to investigate the murder. The dog tracking exercise and other efforts led to the arrest of one suspect who police officers hope will help them to find the killers, and establish the motive of the murder.
