Uneb: Muhammad Ssegirinya used fake academic documents for Kawempe North MP nomination; papers have index numbers for two Mengo SS females

Muhammad Richard Ssegirinya’s Kawempe North rival Sulaiman Sserwadda Kidandala has lifted the lid on the irregularities the MP-elect presented to the Electoral Commission (EC) for nomination in 2020.

Kidandala has secured copies of academic documents belonging to Muhammad (formerly Richard) Ssegirinya showing inconsistences.

Kidandala has already filed a petition in the High Court in Kampala challenging Ssegirinya’s election.

Through his lawyers of Alaka and Company Advocates, Kidandala sought to verify Ssegirinya’s documents for authenticity.

He hopes to use these documents as evidence against Ssegirinya and the Electoral Commission (EC) — who are the respondents.

On March 17, 2021, in acting capacity as Uneb executive secretary, Peter Anywar offered a response that will please Kidandala and frustrate Ssegirinya.

Anywar makes it clear that Ssegirinya used academic documents belonging to two other people: Sarah Nampiima and Maureen Nabadda.

“We have checked in our records and our findings are as follows; Candidate U005/054(2017) is Nampiima Sarah who sat at Mengo secondary school not Ssegirinya Richard sitting at Pimbas secondary school,” Uneb’s Anywar wrote in response to Kidandala’s request.

“The candidate U005/754 is Nabadda Maureen who sat at Mengo Secondary school not Ssegirinya Richard at Pimbas Secondary school.”

The assessment body further ruled: “The certificate serial numbers U1884798 and A0964827, respectively, whose copies you submitted for verification are NOT authentic documents issued by the board.”

According to the Parliamentary Elections Act of 2005, all parliamentary aspirants should have a UACE (A-level or Senior Six completion) certificate or its equivalent.

This means that Ssegirinya could lose his seat months to swearing-in of new MPs for the 11th Parliament over fake documents.
