Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, the outgoing fourth President of the Republic of Kenya, has made it clear that he will always honor Raila Amolo Odinga as his leader and president, but reiterated that will hand over State House to his hitherto deputy William Samoei Ruto.
On Monday, September 05, Kenya’s Supreme Court confirmed the election victory of Ruto, shattering Odinga’s hopes.
Odinga has promised to respect the decision of the country’s apex court of appeal but said he vehemently disagreed with the judges’ decision.
Uhuru has also promised a smooth transition even when Odinga, the man he supported for the country’s top seat, did not go through, according to the official results released by Wafula Chebukati’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and confirmed by Chief Justice Martha Koome’s Supreme Court in its unanimous decision.
In a meeting with a Parliamentary Group of the Azimio La Umoja Coalition Party, Uhuru told Kenyans that they had missed a great leader in Odinga.
Reiterating that he has no problem handing over power to Ruto next week, Uhuru said he would leave State House to his deputy of 10 years with a wide smile.
“I will hand over power smiling because it is constitutional. Aluta continua… but I will leave knowing Baba [Raila Amolo Odinga] is my leader,” Uhuru told the Parliamentary Group members.
“Don’t think that you have denied Raila. You have denied yourself the opportunity of bringing the country together. You haven’t denied Raila. Msiwekwe Kwa mfuko.”
