Consistent their culture of academic excellence, teachers, parents and students at St Kana SS Bushenyi are once again celebrating after their UCE 2023 candidates excelled, according to results released by assessment body Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb).
On Thursday, February 15, 2024, Education Minister Janet Museveni and Uneb officials released UCE 2023 results, indicating that performance in sciences continues to be a matter of concern among educationists. But at St Kana SS Bushenyi, the situation is different. The school has continued to excel in sciences, cementing its position on the list of Uganda’s best performing schools in science subjects.
In Chemistry and Biology, candidates at St Kana scored distinctions and credits only. In Chemistry, scores ranged from D1 to C4 while in Biology, candidates scored from D1 to C5, according to the school’s director of studies.
“I would like to congratulate our candidates as well as my fellow teachers on the good performance in UCE 2023,” said Mr Tom Arinanye, the Senior Chemistry Teacher at St Kana SS Bushenyi.
“I also want to thank our director for making sciences a priority. Particularly, I want to thank him for equipping the science laboratory. Furthermore, this good performance would not have been possible without the brilliance and hard work of skilled teachers.”
Uneb results indicated improvement in performance. Even at St Kana SS Bushenyi, candidates have posted better results, overall.
A total of 27 candidates sat UCE 2023 examinations at St Kana SS Busheyi. All these candidates passed in Division One (First Grade) and Division Two (Second Grade). Up to 13 candidates got first grade scores while the rest (14) managed second grade scores. The best student was Eva Atuhaire who scored aggregate 11 in eight.
School Director Mr Naboth Kajungu expressed gratitude to God, the teachers, parents and candidates for their efforts. He also assured parents and candidates of a conducive learning environment to enable academic excellence and a holistic education.
“We are grateful to God for making our efforts fruitful. I would like to assure our dear parents and students that as administrators at St Kana SS Bushenyi, we will not get tired of doing everything we can to ensure that students can excel in their academics, including in science subjects.”
