UBC Kololo Transmission Towers Struck by Lightning

Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) says lightning has struck its Kololo transmission towers, causing a free to air channels blackout. The entire impact of the lightning strike on the UBC Kololo transmission towers had not yet been fully established.

In a statement, UBC says it had assigned a team to make an assessment of the impact of the lightning strike.

Uganda Broadcasting Corporation also revealed that the lightning strike on the transmission towers had made it difficult to access UBC TV and a number of radio stations on some of the pay TV platforms.

“We regret to inform the public that most free-to-air channels are currently off air due to a lightning strike on our Kololo transmission towers,” the public broadcaster informed Ugandans on Friday, August 16, 2024.

“Unfortunately, the strike on the towers has also affected some radios and UBC TV on some Pay TV platforms.”

UBC also said it was doing everything required to ensure that Ugandans accessing channels via the free to air arrangement get back to normal service.

“Our engineering team is currently working to assess the damage of and restore transmission as quickly as possible,” the corporation further noted.

“We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and appreciate your patience and understanding.”
