Independent candidate Lt Gen (Rtd) Henry Kakurugu Tumukunde has scoffed at those doubting his potential, including incumbent President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni, that he is a man of action not threats.
Ahead of his nomination as a 2021 presidential candidate, Lt Gen Tumukunde told reporters in Kololo in Kampala that those doubting him would be surprised.
“From today on, you will see the real fabric of ourselves. People threaten things; for me I do things,” he said after prayers ahead of his journey to Kyambogo nomination centre.
“Just wait, we are moving forward, we are going to do a very good job.”
Tumukunde also rallied Ugandans to vote.
“I call upon all of you to come out and vote and make that difference you want to see,” he said.
The former spymaster also complained of intimidation of supporters by security agencies. He reportedly threatened to quit the race.
Tumukunde said he was in talks with other opposition candidates to chart a way forward on whether to pull out or continue participating in the 2021 election.
At Nakawa, police fired tear gas to disperse Tumukunde’s supporters.
