TROUBLE IN PARADISE as Defiant Muhoozi Tells His Father Museveni ‘Nobody Can Ban Me From Twitter’

Ugandan first son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has sworn that nobody, not even his much-feared father Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, will ban him from accessing his Twitter account and from tweeting as freely as he wishes – even when some his tweets have been labelled controversial, careless and known to whip up social media storms.

A few days ago, Muhoozi’s father Gen Museveni, who has ruled Uganda for nearly four decades since he captured power in a five-year bush war that left hundreds of thousands dead in the Luweero Triangle, gave an interview to Kenyan television KTN News reporter Sophia Wanuna. Museveni and his son have been gaining the attention of Kenyans in recent months.

Gen Museveni was in Kenya in September 2022 and newly elected president Dr William Samoei Ruto declared him the father of the region. Museveni then praised KTN’s Kivumbi show but told Kenyans to stop dragging him into their internal politics. (Read Story Here).

A few weeks later, Museveni’s son Gen Muhoozi whipped up a Twitter storm after saying that he and his army have the potential to capture the Kenyan capital Nairobi within two weeks. Kenyans reacted angrily, prompting the 78-year-old Museveni to apologize to Kenyans, their President Dr Ruto and all Ugandans for his son’s careless tweets and mistakes. (See Details Here).

After the controversial ‘Nairobi Capture’ tweets, the Ugandan President fired his son from his position as the Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Land Forces, replacing him with Operation Shujaa commander Lt Gen Apollo Muhanga Kayanja. But Museveni also had trouble explaining to Kenyans and Ugandans why, instead of severely punishing his carelessly tweeting son, he promoted Muhoozi to the rank of general, the highest in the Ugandan army. In an interview recently aired on KTN News, Gen Museveni said that he will not allow his son to keep tweeting about controversial issues such as internal politics and regional security, vowing to ensure that Gen Muhoozi, who is still a serving UPDF officer and his father’s senior advisor on special operations,  only tweets about less controversial matters such as sports. When the Sophia Wanuna interview aired on KTN News, Gen Muhoozi was in Rwanda visiting his ‘uncle’ President Paul Kagame. He has since returned and continued sending out tweets that would ordinarily land regular serving UPDF officers in trouble for openly engaging in partisan politics while still in the UPDF uniform.

The first son accused KTN News’ Wanuna of telling Museveni to ban him from using Twitter, wondering whether this call for a Twitter ban was a joke.  The youthful army general has now made it clear to his father Gen Museveni that nobody will stop him from tweeting or using any social media platform in the manner he deems fit. He added that he is an adult who should not be told what to do or what not to do.

“I hear some journalist from Kenya asked my father to ban me from Twitter? Is that some kind of joke?? I am an adult and NO ONE will ban me from anything!” wrote Muhoozi.

In the same interview, Museveni also trashed Minister Norbert Mao’s Peaceful Power Handover Talks. (Read Story Here and Norbert Mao’s response There).
