Uganda’s Covid19 herbal medicine Covidex maker Prof Patrick Engeu Ogwang will have to deal with global information censorship from big tech companies like YouTube, a battle for Intellectual Property Rights with Mbarara University of Science and Technology (Must) as well as a mafia gang hell bent on minting billions from the wonder drug, a Pearl Times News analysis team reports.
In the following report, this publication explains the three roadblocks that have been thrown in Prof Ogwang’s way.
With the first hurdle, approval by National Drug Authority (NDA), seemingly out of the way, and his security ‘guaranteed’ on President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s orders, new troubles are emerging for Prof Ogwang every day.
First, even before the issue of NDA approval came up, Mbarara University of Science and Technology had issued a warning to Prof Ogwang and his company Jenah Herbals U Ltd on the issue of IP rights.
Pearl Times News previously reported about the ownership battle for Covidex. (See: DETAILS: Leaked Covidex herbal medicine formula funded by World Bank loan, true owner revealed).
Video sharing site YouTube has led the way for big Tech’s censorship of Covidex.
On July 06, YouTube deleted Prof Ogwang’s video showing the prescription for Covidex.
The site accused Prot Ogwang of medical misinformation.
Various media reports claimed YouTube found the video labelled ‘How to use Covidex’ contradicted information from local health authorities and WHO.
Local authorities didn’t mean NDA but American and European drug agencies (and perhaps big pharmaceuticals).
“We don’t allow content that spreads medical misinformation that contradicts local health authorities’ or the World Health Organization (WHO) medical information about Covid-19,” the imperialist big tech company said.
“Our team reviewed your content, and unfortunately, we think it violates our medical misinformation policy. We’ve removed the following content from YouTube.”
In a shock announcement July 06, Prof Ogwang’s assistant revealed his boss had cancelled a media interview because of restrictions on his media appearances.
“Apologies to our viewers, we were unable to have Professor Ogwang Engeu Patrick on the Topical Discussion because he has been stopped from having media interviews, according to his Personal Assistant,” local TV station NBS said in a statement.
The media appearances cancellation prompted some to suspect a mafia gang keen on minting billions from Covidex could have put Prof Ogwang under their control.
Pearl Times News couldn’t independently verify the claims of a mafia gang taking over Ogwang’s Covidex.
Even amidst these hurdles, Prof Ogwang seems to have won the president’s support.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of Dei BioPharma Ltd, a multibillion pharmaceutical drugs and mRNA vaccine manufacturing facility in Matugga, Wakiso, the president saluted Prof Ogwang for developing Covidex.
“The economy of diseases, germs protozoa, etc, all our health problems are also economic opportunities being taken advantage of by others. Africans are totally absent. That is why we have a shortage of vaccines in the whole of Africa,” said the president.
“Africa is unrivaled in biodiversity. One of our scientists (Prof. Patrick Ogwang) produced something for Corona. There are so many things here. There is a lot of medicine in plants. It is very reassuring that the likes of Ogwang and Magoola are turning Africa’s medical challenges around.”
