Top Uganda Airlines Bosses ‘Fired’ after Joel Ssenyonyi Cosase Exposé; Jobs Advertised (See Details)

Uganda Airlines CEO Jennifer Bamuturaki
115

At least 16 jobs for top officials at national carrier Uganda Airlines, whose Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is Jennifer Bamuturaki Musiime, have been advertised, indicating that those who were holding these positions could have been fired or those who have been holding the positions in acting capacity will have to undergo a competitive process in order to be confirmed in substantive capacity.

The jobs include those of Chief Finance Officer (CFO), Chief Commercial Officer (COO), Company Secretary, Head of Maintenance and Engineering, Head of Flight Operations, Head of Ground Operations, Senior Manager Information Technology and Data Management, Manager Human Resources, Manager Internal Audit, Manager Cabin Services, Manager Quality and Monitoring, Chief Pilot and Safety Officers (four openings).

The jobs were advertised following shocking revelations by Nakawa West MP and National Unity Platform (NUP) Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi’s Public Accounts Committee on Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase).

Full job descriptions have been made public on the careers section of the national carrier’s website.

For example, the Chief Finance Officer will be in charge of the Finance and Support Services Department, will be responsible for all staff under this department, and will report to Chief Executive Officer Bamuturaki.

S/he is required to hold an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance, or a closely related and relevant field, from a recognized University; full Accountancy professional qualification, such as ACCA, CPA, or equivalent qualification is a must; must have a minimum of 15 years of experience in financial management in a large organization and at least five to seven years in a Senior Management role in aviation; must be a Member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU); must have knowledge of strategic planning, the budget process, cost recovery and contract management. A relevant Master’s Degree is an added advantage.

Application letters, curriculum vitae, copies of academic and professional certificates will all be submitted online.

The deadline for application is 5pm of October 07, 2022. Thereafter, shortlisted candidates will be contacted with information on interview dates.

The advert for jobs at the Uganda Airlines indicates that CEO Bamuturaki’s job is secure. Yet she has been at the heart of the investigation by Ssenyonyi’s Cosase.

It should be remembered that Museveni came out and defended the appointment of Bamuturaki as CEO. Museveni’s minister Gen Katumba Wamala said he could not block Bamuturaki’s appointment even when it seemed irregular because it was an order from above. (Read Stories Here and There).
