Works and transport minister Gen Edward Katumba Wamala has today launched tolling on the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, announcing toll fees for each vehicle category.
The road was constructed with a loan from the China Exim Bank.
The fees paid will contribute to maintenance costs, pay EGIS Road Operations SA, the operator, while part of the funds will go to loan repayment.
There will four classes of vehicles allowed to use the expressway and these will pay different fees. Bodabodas will be barred from using the toll road.
Class 1 will have motorcycles >400cc which will pay Shs2,700 for each trip under the Easy Pass.
Class 2 will light vehicles which will pay Shs4,500
Class 3 will have medium goods vehicles (2-3 axles) which will pay Shs9,000
Class 4 will have Large goods vehicles and buses (4-5 axles) paying Shs13,500, and large goods vehicles (six or more axles) paying 16,200.
Under the Weekly pass, users will have up to 50 per cent discount, meaning that they will pay Shs1,500, Shs2,500, Shs5,000, Shs7,500 and Shs9,000 per trip, respectively.
The discount will increased up to 70 per cent for all classes under the Monthly pass, meaning that users will pay Shs900, Shs1,500, Shs3,000, Shs4,500 and Shs5,400 per trip, respectively.
