Tired of Waiting Forever: Museveni’s Son Muhoozi Tells Father to Give Way for His 2026 Presidential Bid

Ugandan first son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced he is standing for president in the 2026 elections, telling his father and the old guard that he and his ‘generation of young people’ are tired of ‘waiting forever.’

Giving examples of young leaders around the world, Gen Kainerugaba, who is also his father’s senior presidential advisor on special operations, declared that his time to shine had come.

“The Prime Minister of UK is 42 years old, the Prime Minister of Finland is 37 years. Some of us are hitting 50 years old. We are tired of waiting forever. We will take a stand! Fidel Castro, my HERO, became President at 32 years. I’m about to hit 49 years old,” he wrote.

“It’s really not right. The Presidency of the nation is meant for young men. How many agree with me that our time has come? Enough of the old people ruling us. Dominating us. It’s time for our generation to shine.”

The 48-year-old UPDF general also swore that nobody would stand in his way to the country’s top seat in 2026 — not even the opposition, which he said is non-existent in Uganda.

“You have wanted me to say it forever! Okay, in the name of Jesus Christ my God, in the name of all the young people of Uganda and the world and in the name of our great revolution, I will stand for the Presidency in 2026!” he continued.

“There is no Opposition in Uganda. There is only Truth and Lies! The time for the people to choose between them is fast approaching.”

In recent months, there have been some attempts to convince Gen Kainerugaba to be a little bit patient and allow his father Museveni rule up to 2031. But two camps have emerged, one supporting Museveni, the father; and the other, Museveni the son. (See Details Here).

A senior minister even revealed the year Museveni had agreed to peacefully hand over power. But Gen Museveni came out and trashed his minister’s claims. (Read Stories Here and There).
