Ugandan public servants will have to wait a little bit longer to receive their salaries for the month of July, the first in 2022-2023 Financial Year.
The salaries are normally expected on government employees’ accounts by close of business every 28th of the month.
This is the same position that Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury (PSST) Ramathan Ggoobi emphasized during the release of the funds for the first quarter (Q1) last week.
PSST Ggoobi told all accounting officers to ensure that wages, salaries, pensions, and gratuities are paid by the 28th day of every month.
What is clear from the PSST’s statement is that the money to pay the salaries is available. About Shs1.6tn was released for this purpose.
Public Service Ministry Permanent Secretary Catherine Bitarakwate Musingwiire has attributed the delayed payments to the delay in drafting and approving the FY2022-2023 salary structure.
It should be remembered that some government employees, such as science teachers and senior UPDF officers, got salary increments and these have to be captured into the salary structure. (Read Stories Here and There).
Officials from the Ministries of Public Service as well as that of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) have been quoted as saying that the payments will be effected on August 05, which is next Friday.
As we reported last week, the Finance Ministry has released funds meant for the payment of salaries. (Read Story Here).
Meanwhile, PS Bitarakwate has delivered bad news to arts teachers, revealing that each one of them will get the Shs4m/month salary in 2026. (Read Story Here).
Public Service Minister Wilson Muruli Mukasa has also revealed when the establishment of the Salaries Review Commission will be finalized so that all government employees’ salaries can be reviewed. (Read Story Here).
