THIS LIFE! Uganda’s Digital Marketing Guru Kills Himself, Leaves Behind Shocking Suicide Note

John Birungi Babirukamu, a respected digital marketing guru, has committed suicide. John Babirukamu was the director of thought leadership at the Uganda Marketing Society (UMS).

Several digital marketers took to social media to share how great a man John Babirukamu was. He was previously the brains behind the success of digital brands for big companies like NTV, Uganda Breweries Limited, Equity Bank, BRAC and Sheraton Kampala.

But deep inside him, he had a feeling of ‘emptiness,’ according to a suicide note he shared in a Whatsapp group before he jumped to his death.

At the time of his death, John Babirukamu was General Manager at Hedge, a communications and marketing agency.

He died on Friday, May 31, 2024 after jumping from the last floor of Tagore Building in Kamwokya in the capital Kampala.

John Babirukamu jumped to his death shortly after informing a family Whatsapp group that he had felt emptiness and was sorry for being a convenience in life and death.

John Babirukamu

“I apologize for being an inconvenience in death as I was in life. I have given it my all and now I find myself with only emptiness,” wrote Babirukamu at 11:41am after which he committed suicide by jumping from a building.

“I do sincerely love you all, and hope you find it in your hearts to forgive me. Kiss my nieces and nephews for me. They are the last joy that I held onto.”

His close family members tried calling his phone but he was not picking. His phone was later switched off. Later, it was confirmed that John Babirukamu had jumped to his death.
