An activist from Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) has alleged that security operatives burnt his chest with hot metals during detention.
Eric Mwesigwa is said to have been missing for a fortnight. Following his release from detention, Mwesigwa appeared in Bobi Wine’s office to narrate his ordeal. According to Bobi Wine, Mwesigwa was tortured over his (the principal’s) alleged plans to overthrow Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government.
“Here’s what Gen. Museveni’s thugs did to our comrade Mwesigwa Eric, who we’ve been looking for these past two weeks. They abducted him & tortured him asking what Bobi Wine and NUP are planning to do to “overthrow the government”. What a group of cold-hearted criminals!” wrote Bobi Wine.
“He [Mwesigwa] says they burnt him with some hot metals on the chest, used metallic pieces to tear his skin, kicked him several times in the chest and stomach, and did other unthinkable things to him. This has been the fate of hundreds of our supporters who are regularly abducted!”
This is not first time Bobi Wine’s NUP supporters and activists are alleging torture in security detention. Months ago, a youthful NUP blogger claimed he had been denied food for three days and that he was injected with suspicious drugs while in detention. (Read Stories Here and There).
