Murdered former Bukwo District acting Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Charles Robert Ogwang’s final words to health personnel at the Bombo Military Hospital are being relied on as key clues in the investigation on shooting the district boss.
On Friday night, CAO Ogwang was shot at in Kiryowa Cell, Kiryamuli Ward in Wakiso District’s Gombe Sub County.
Ogwang was rushed to Bombo Military Hospital, where he breathed his last at around 4am. As officers of the Uganda Police Force (UPF) continue to investigate the murder, they interviewed health personnel who attended to the former acting CAO at the military health facility.
UPF spokesperson Fred Enanga has revealed that Ogwang told the medical personnel how he was shot as well as the events that preceded the shooting.
According to Enanga, Ogwang said that armed men had stopped him and clearly wanted to know if he was ‘Ogwang.’ It seems they were looking for a man named Ogwang. It looked like they were on a mission to catch him.
The former CAO further told the Bombo Military Hospital that he he had lied about his identity but the armed men had insisted on crosschecking his answer by having a look at his identification documents and mobile phone.
“It was at Kiryowa cell, Kiryamuli ward, Gombe division, that he was stopped by an armed group of strangers, and he parked aside,” said Enanga on July 11.
“The attackers inquired whether he was Mr. Ogwang, and it is at this stage that he sensed danger and he told them that he was his driver. They removed his wallet and phone, which they checked.”
Certain that this was Ogwang, the man they must have been looking for, the assailants shot at him.
“After establishing his true identify, the assailants fired several bullets at him from the passenger side. This was an account of the victim to the medical staff at Bombo Military Hospital, as they tried to give him First Aid. Its unfortunate that the victim succumbed to the injuries,” added Enanga.
Meanwhile, the driver of the murdered CAO has been arrested by police. (Read Story Here).
