A number of Buganda Kingdom subjects (Baganda) and other Mengo well-wishers have expressed joy at the king’s public appearance. In recent years, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s health condition has been of concern to his subjects. But his appearance at the opening of the Masaza Cup tournament has excited Buganda.
Kabaka Mutebi, Omwana wa Mutesa, was the chief guest at an event to officially kick off the 19th edition of the Airtel Masaza Cup at Mutesa II Stadium Wankulukuku on Saturday, June 24, 2023.
The Kabaka arrived amidst cheers from his subject. He was pictured kicking a ball with his left foot to as he officially launched this year’s Masaza Cup tourney.
He watched the opening game in which Mawokota hammered Busiro 3-1.
A total of 18 counties will compete for the Kingdom’s most prestigious sports trophy.
The county football teams have been placed in three groups: Muganzirwazza, Masengere,
Muganzirwazza comprises Busiro, Ggomba, Mawokota, Ssese, Mawogola, and Kabula counties.
The counties of Buddu, Buweekula, Kyaggwe, Kyaddondo, Buluuli, and Kkooki are in Masengere Group.
Bulange group comprises the counties of Ssingo, Bulemeezi, Buvuma, Bugerere, and Busujju.
The king’s subjects took to social media to express how happy they were to see the Kabaka looking healthy.
Some even prayed to God to protect their king and make him healthier while others praised the Son of Mutesa.
The Kabaka’s health has been a question of concern since the king appeared in public looking sick for his birthday party. The Katikkiro would later explain that the Kabaka had allergies and not cancer as had been alleged. The Kabaka sometimes travels abroad for medical checkups. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
