THE KILLERS WILL PAY FOR THEIR SINS: Museveni Vows to Crush Those Who Murdered UCU Student, Bukwo CAO & Kamwokya Councilor

Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has spoken out on recent murders that have shaken the nation, vowing to punish the killers.

At least three murders have dominated media headlines: the assassination of Bukwo District Acting Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Charles Robert Ogwang along Bombo Road; the killing of Uganda Christian University (UCU) second year law student Bewatte Betunguura; and the murder of James Kakooza, 54, the LC3 Councilor for Kamwokya Church Zone, Central Division in Kampala Capital City.

According to Uganda Police Force (UPF) Spokesperson Fred Enanga, Kakooza “was attacked by two assailants on a motor cycle, who hit him with a blunt object, during the morning jogging exercise along Centenary Park, towards Yusuf Lule Road” and died on July 16.

On July 18, Enanga noted that one person had been arrested and that there were important clues that the security personnel investigating the murder were pursuing. He also advised Ugandans against publicizing their movements on social media and exercising very early in the morning.

“The victim left his home at around 5am, for routine morning road run. He was however, trailed by two assailants on a motorcycle, up to Centenary Park, where he was attacked from at around 6:20am. The targeted attack shows how vulnerable one can be, when they go out very early, for lone jogging exercises,” noted Enanga.

“Just like the victim, many people publicize their daily routines and movements on social media platforms, which is dangerous, since it can make you a target for your enemies. Others do it out of excitement, fun and friendship and they reveal where they are travelling, having breakfast, lunch, dinner, parties, clubs, their families, their children and the schools they go to, after school activities etc.

“It is trending these days to take photos while posing at venues, with signs stating where you are, and post them on popular platforms like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. The challenge with it, is that you do not know who is monitoring your life and can take advantage of that information to harm you and your family members. It is therefore, important to keep your life private especially, business persons, parents, public officials etc, to keep their information to a minimum.”

MUSEVENI SPEAKS ON RECENT MURDERS

Speaking about the recent murders, Museveni added his voice to Ugandans condemning the acts, assuring Ugandans that the perpetrators will be arrested and punished just like the security agencies did with rebels belonging to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).

“Condemnation for the killers of Kakooza, Councillor from Kamwokya, the student, Betungura, the CAO from Bukwo, Charles Ogwang and others,” said Museveni.

“Their killers will pay like the idiotic ADFs have been paying. They thought it was a joke. It is a bad joke and gamble to kill Ugandans.”

Meanwhile, there are calls that Bukwo District leaders be questioned as part of the investigation into the murder of CAO Ogwang. (Read Story Here).
